dnb featured in New England Real Estate Journal

The New England Real Estate Journal’s project of the month is the dnb designed 36,000 SF office building under construction at 25 New Hampshire Avenue in Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  dnb has a long-standing relationship with Two International Construction, who has developed almost half of the commercial spaces at Pease.  If it reaches its goal of LEED Platinum certification, it will be the first Core and Shell project to do so in the state of New Hampshire.

Marshfield farmhouse gets dnb makeover

dnb has the touch when it comes to adapting existing residences into appealing new homes with just the right amount of retained historical character.  This was no different when it came to renovating a farmhouse in Marshfield, Massachusetts into the landmark condominium at the entrance of Eames Brook Farm, a new condominium development by The Valle Group.

dnb home/office goes green!

Over the past year, the dnb home/office has been doing its part to reduce its carbon footprint.

First, taking advantage of state incentives and tax credits, ReVision Energy installed a 4.1 KW grid tied rooftop solar array on a detached garage.  It is expected to supply about half of the power requirements for operating the dnb office.  It is especially pleasing to watch the meter run backwards when we are producing more than we consume!

Second, Dann and Susan Batting replaced the antiquated boiler in their home with a new condensing boiler that will reduce the consumption of fossil fuel and emissions, as well as saving money.

Third, the Battings added a masonry heater to their oversized inefficient home fireplace.  An Eco Firebox was installed within the cavernous opening that operates on the principal of a Russian Fireplace where the path of combustion is circulated through a series of chambers before exiting to the outside.  This multi-chamber pathway not only warms the masonry mass but also increases the temperature, up to 1,000 degrees within the firebox, creating an efficient burn that creates almost complete combustion making the firebox more than 85% efficient.

dnb believes each of us needs to do our part to reduce emissions if we wish to end our dependence on fossil fuel and reduce the green house gases that threaten our environment.  dnb is pleased with the changes we have made over the last year and is happy to help clients make their building projects sustainable as well!

21 Pine in North Falmouth is underway

One of dnb’s specialties is planned communities of carefully designed and detailed attached housing.  21 Pine is a planned community of eight homes developed and built by The Valle Group in North Falmouth, Massachusetts.  Each home features an open floor plan, first floor master suite, two second floor guest bedrooms, loft, and a one-car garage.  With four of the homes nearly complete, 21 Pine is fully underway and generating lots of interest.

Stu completed his M.Arch

dnb is proud to announce that Dan “Stu” Hall has completed his Master of Architecture degree at Boston Architectural College!  Stu’s thesis project examined how the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. could be adaptively reused into a mixed-use building complete with parking, courtyards, offices, retail space, museums, theaters, residential units, a green roof, and more.  Congrats Stu!
